Obituary of Larry Ezekiel Young
Please share a memory of Larry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Larry probably has a funny memory of their interaction. He had that impact on most people. He always had a funny story from every era of his life that would bring everyone to happy tears. We are so grateful to God for loaning him to us!
Larry Ezekiel Young was born on November 4, 1963 to Ezekiel “Zeke” Robins and Sarah Young. He grew up surrounded by faith, family, and an abundance of love. The extended Young Family lived in the neighborhood, so he grew up with a host of aunts, uncles and cousins. Larry was also blessed to have his grandfather close as a child. He shared thousands of stories about growing up with his siblings. His mother, Sarah, was an amazing woman of God who loved to cook. Larry often tried to recreate her wonderful yeast rolls. Her greatest gift to her children was introducing them to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Her children watched as she served the Lord wherever she went.
Larry’s dad Zeke was handy, a trait that he passed on to Larry. Throughout his life they worked side-by-side on many, many projects. Larry continued to master his ability to fix anything right up to his illness. He used these skills professionally, but more importantly he would help anyone who needed him.
Larry attended the Philadelphia Public Schools. Upon graduation, he joined the US Marine Corps at the age of 17. He honorably served his country in several deployments to Beirut. Shortly after leaving the military, Larry began to work for Bell of Pennsylvania as a temporary part-time technician. His 34-year career with Verizon included many jobs across three states, providing him an opportunity to meet many people who would impact his life and become great friends. One of those friends was Jennifer Perkins. Their paths crossed shortly after she moved to the area. They began dating more than a year later, just a few weeks before his mom Sarah went to be with the Lord in August 1995. From the start, Larry and Jennifer were joined at the hip.
They married in July 1997 surrounded by family and friends. Their family expanded with the births of Sydni, Elijah, and Emmanuel who joined siblings Kevin, Alanna, Angelique, and David. He loved being a dad and graduated to become a grandfather, known as PopPop. Some of the best memories are when Larry had the opportunity to spend one-on one-time with each of his kids. The only thing better was when everyone could be together.
He faithfully served the Lord through several ministries over his lifetime. Whenever God led him to be of service, Larry jumped at the opportunity. He was a devoted Christian, husband, father, grandfather, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. He was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to mourn his wife of 26 years, Jennifer; his children Kevin (Sade), Alanna, Angelique, David, Sydni, Elijah, and Emmanuel; grandchildren Kiaira, Kevin Jr., DaRon, Ayanna, Kyrie, Jazmine and Hajanae; siblings Serena Taylor, Zeke (Patrice), Sharon (Everett) Riley, Steve
(Tina), Yolanda Robins, Joey, and Cynthia Wolfe; a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews; and his in-loves.
