Obituary of Annita Walters
Please share a memory of Annita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Today we gather to celebrate the life of Annita Walters, known to her family and close friends as “Cila”. She was born on January 15, 1948, to the late Agatha and Lawrence Joseph. Annita was born and raised in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago where she attended college, met her first husband of 20 years, and raised their two children Hayden and Wendy. Later on, after her divorce, she met and married her life partner John Walters, and together they helped raise his beautiful daughter Michelle, before moving to Philadelphia, PA in the early 90’s.
There she worked in the nursing field for several years before retiring as a teacher in the Philadelphia School District. Although Annita and John did not have children of their own, they adopted and raised Beverly and Xam-Anthony. John and Annita had a long life of travelling, loving, and supporting each other even after retirement. When she became ill, John devoted his life as her caregiver until God called her home.
Annita was a loving, caring, God-fearing woman, who loved the Lord.
She loved her family dearly and truly enjoyed spending time together at family and holiday gatherings; a tradition that is still continued. Known to her grandchildren as “Granny” and “Gran-Gran”, they loved her homemade sweetbread, and the love she put in her homemade remedies when they were sick. Her orange-peel tea worked wonders without fail! She was such a joy to be around and known for her spicy personality (if you know, you know) and she will truly be missed.
Annita was preceded in death by her parents Agatha and Lawrence Joseph; and brothers Clyde “John”, and Randolph Joseph. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving and devoted husband, John Walters; siblings Agnes, Frank, Rupert, and Dennis; her children: Hayden, Wendy, Michelle, Beverly, and Xam-Anthony; and her grandchildren: Kristian, Brianna, Adrienne, Andre, Kayden and Jahlil, Makayla, and Jamar; and a host of family, relatives and close friends.
