The Obituary
Gladys L. Gamble, was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina to the parents of the late Gladys G. McClintock and Lewis P. Deadwyler on November 30, 1935.
Gladys’ early education began in Spartanburg and after her family moved to Newark, NJ she finished her schooling there. She graduated from South Side High School in Newark in 1955. On August 11,1956, Gladys married Lester V. Gamble Jr. and that union produced three children: Duane, Valarie and Nora.
She worked as a dedicated homemaker while raising the children while their father worked to support the family. She had several hobbies: gardening, playing piano, cooking and going to yard sales. She loved canning and freezing fresh farm produce. She was a long time fan of Johnny Mathis and Andrea Bocelli. She was a yard sale veteran for finding terrific bargains. One of her favorite hobbies and past times was cooking. She loved researching recipes from her kitchen cookbook library. She liked to cook from scratch and season things just right. All of her presented dishes and offerings to family gatherings and friends were well received and enjoyed. Everybody's kids in the family always called our “Mom”, Aunt Gladys. Mom was lovingly know as "Skeets or Candy" by the family.
After the children were older, Gladys worked as a Food Service Worker in the Pittsgrove Township, school system. During her years there, she had the opportunity to wear different hats. The job she enjoyed the best was the food preparation and cooking. She retired from her job with the Pittsgrove Township, school system in 1996.
She had a personal relationship with the Lord. She enjoyed spending time in meditation and listening to Praise and Worship music. She also treasured playing religious Hymns on the piano and listening to religious sermons by Dr. Charles Stanley.
Gladys passed away on January 7, 2024, at Inspira Hospital, Vineland, NJ. She was predeceased by her brother Lewis P. Deadwyler Jr.
