Zelda Gregory Obituary
Zelda Gregory of Camden, New Jersey, passed unexpectedly June 3rd 2024, at her home. She was born May 26, 1937, the daughter of Maurice and Grace McMurren Fish (nee Johnson) of Elizabeth City, North Carolina. When her mother Grace was later remarried to William H. Johnson of Elizabeth City, North Carolina (Aunt Margaret Johnson’s brother), Zelda became William’s stepdaughter, taking on the last name of Hill.
Zelda was Baptized at an early age at Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church, Elizabeth City, North Carolina, and was a dedicated member of Kaighn Avenue Baptist Church in Camden, NJ for over 50 years.
Zelda graduated from Boettcher’s School of Business, Elizabeth City, North
Carolina and attended Rutgers University, Camden, New Jersey. She worked as
a receptionist for Rev. Nemo in the City of Camden, City Hall, and retired from Rutgers University after serving in her role as librarian for 31 years.
Zelda was predeceased by her loving husband, the late John W. Gregory. Beloved by her family, she leaves behind her son, Brian Maurice Gregory, daughter-in-law Lisa M. Gregory, 2 granddaughters Lydia S. Gregory and Brianna L. Gregory, great-granddaughter Laniya Holden, great-grandson Gabriel Holden, and great-granddaughter Sofie Holden.
Zelda touched the lives of many, many friends including Linda Jones, Pennsauken, New Jersey, Wanda Johnson, Pennsauken, NJ, Judy Fulton, Camden, New Jersey, Gwen Watson, Camden, New Jersey, and Jackie Coleman, Camden, New Jersey.
She is survived by family cousins Willie Mae Overton, Elizabeth City, North
Carolina, Wanda Gainey, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Lawanda Gainey and family, Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Shawanda Johnson, Winston Salem, North Carolina;
Corey Gainey and family, Pennsauken, New Jersey, Carmen Lozada, and Steven Williams, Camden, New Jersey, LaDonna Crawford, Camden, New Jersey Aunt Vivian Wright, Blackwood, New Jersey, Cheryl and Laurie Monk, Blackwood, New Jersey, Paula Collins, Havana, Florida, Martina White and family, Gloucester Township, New Jersey.
She will also be greatly missed by friends Linda Jones, Pennsauken, New Jersey, Wanda Johnson, Pennsauken, New Jersey, Mary Lou and Darryl Denson of
Florida, Kirk Jones, Pennsauken, New Jersey, school mates Juanita La Maupin
of Elizabeth City, North Carolina and Gertrude Williams, Judy Fulton, Camden, New Jersey, Gwen Watson, Camden, New Jersey, Leslie Showell, Sicklerville, New Jersey, Monica Showell, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Krystal Cooper of Georgia.
