Obituary of Marvin G Sills

On Thursday, June 16, Mr. Sills, 68, of Cedar Brook, the former Assistant Vice President and Director of Admissions at Rowan University, died after a long battle with cancer. Born in Rocky Mount, NC., he grew up in East Orange, New Jersey, and graduated from East Orange High School there in 1966. After graduating from Glassboro State College in 1970, Mr. Sills worked tirelessly to help students attend what was then known as Glassboro State College. He led the Office of Admissions during the institution's most traumatic period of change as it progressed from Glassboro State College to Rowan College of New Jersey to Rowan University. In 2006, he transitioned to the role of Director of Recruitment and Outreach, from which he retired in 2009. Besides his sons, Mr. Sills is survived by his wife Tina Sills, his mother, a daughter, one sister, one brother, and two granddaughters. He was predeceased by his brother, Huddie Sills and his father Marvin Nickson Sills. A viewing is set Friday, June 24, from 9 to 10:30 a.m at St. John's United Methodist Church, 410 Fairview Ave, West Berlin, NJ 08091, before an 11 a.m. funeral service there, with interment in Spring Hope Memorial Gardens, Spring Hope, NC.
