Gloria Garmon’s Obituary
Gloria was born to Sarah Mae and Richard Butler in Philadelphia, PA. She attended Simon Gratz High School and shortly after graduating started her employment with the Pennsylvania Department of Welfare. After 10 years there she started and worked almost 40 years with the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier.
Gloria made it her job to know everyone on her route and she never met a “stranger”. A friendly and loving person, she had the ability to make everyone feel like family. She made sure she learned the blooming flowers as she passed by the homes she was responsible for. She herself was a special flower and she always had an abundance of blooms around her home. To know her was to love her.
Her hobbies included spending time with her family, gardening. decorating, and occasionally dabbling in a card game of Black Jack.
She is preceded in death by her son- Christopher Butler, father -Richard Butler, mother -Sarah Mae Butler and sister- Delores Threadgill. She leaves behind to cherish her memories her wonderful and devoted husband- Barry Garmon, twin sons -Derrick and Eric Butler, god-daughter Natasha Brinson, a daughter-in-law, Cindy Butler, her beloved four grandchildren, Asha, Lauren, Leyla and Mason, one sister Minnie McBride, two brothers, Feldon and John Butler and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, very close friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
To our Mom-Mom:
God looked at his garden
And found an empty place
He then looked upon the earth
And saw your tired face
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He always takes the best.
He saw the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb.
So he closed your weary eyes
And said, “Peace be thine”.
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn’t go alone.
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home.
